Passion drives us. Without it, we would give up. If a car ran out of gas it would stop, right then and there, and not go any further. With passion, we persevere when we may have given up and walked away.
The dictionary definition of passion is: “a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something.”
So what happens when there is no passion? No passion in our job, in our relationships, no passion in life in general. My thinking is that we have ‘settled’ somewhere along the way. We have disappeared in the rut of living life by going through the motions and getting through the day. We work, week after week, waiting for the paycheck and our two days off. Sunday night arrives and the anxiety about Monday begins. In fact, statistics have shown most heart attacks occur Monday mornings.
I remember feeling that way only to well. Looking in the mirror and thinking: “Is this all there is – why the heck am I here?”
We grow up being told there is an order to things: finish high school, go to university, get married, have kids. What if that isn’t what we want? What if we have been living other people’s lives? What if we have been following what we are “supposed to do.”
You are each here to live the unique expression of who YOU are. End of story. Whatever it is that feels too good to be true, that you would do for free – that is your path.
At the en of a commencement speech for Stanford University Steve Jobs said: “Stay foolish. Stay hungry.” Let’s forget what we have been told and be hungry for more – more learning, more happiness, more joy and more passion! Care more about what you think and feel inside than what other’s say. Let your dreams fuel you. Embrace them as truth. And don’t wait until tomorrow, begin taking steps in your direction today.
I wish you an abundant fall season filled with much love, passion and adventure. As always I am here to support you in this life journey – and welcome your feedback.
