This week I share a few thoughts on the topic of ‘red flags’. What are red flags? Red flags are intuitive warnings that come in the form of feelings and gut instincts that cause us to pause and reconsider. Paying attention to red flags can literally save us from harm. They come into our awareness when a person, place, setting or situation just doesn’t feel right. When we ‘reconsider’ we make a different, more powerful choice; a choice in alignment with our highest good.
Often, however, we ignore the red flags only to find out our instincts were in fact, right. We may have leaned to ignore red flags, justify them or compromise our truth instead. We may even think we are making it up or being paranoid. Sometimes we simply give our power away by letting the red flags go unheeded again and again.
It is interesting to look back at different situations after the fact and realize that we did have an uneasy feeling, or felt something was off.
Learning to notice and pay attention to the red flags as they show up for us gives us the option of making another choice. It is rarely a false warning. Trusting our inner guidance when they show up is a true blessing.
Four ways to navigate red flags:
- Keep a ‘red flag journal’ and take notes when relationships, places, settings or situations just don’t feel right somehow. This will enable you to trust yourself more and more. (check back once in awhile to see how things unfolded – and if your instincts were on track)
- Learn to pause and take more time before you make choices – really start to be in touch with your feelings and even how your body responds. Often our stomach feels uneasy or tight – this is your gut instinct giving you feedback.
- Have your close friends give you honest feedback if you aren’t sure if it is a story you are telling yourself, or in fact, real.
- Trust your feelings more than the words you hear or the actions you see. Slow down and take the time to tune into these feelings.
Trusting in your inner directive and knowing the Universe has your back is a strong and empowered place to live from. Let’s live there more consistently.
