Affirmations are concise, short, powerful statements. A carefully crafted series of words used to shift our consciousness to a more positive state. The statement creates a state of mind that supports and encourages growth. The words used state a goal as already achieved and provide motivation to move in the right direction.
“The power of your words used in the form
of an affirmation is
the most effective way to bring about
deep healing and amazing shifts in your life – now.”
– C. Hiebert
A key element in understanding the process is this: Our thoughts create our reality – in either positive or negative ways. These thoughts can affect the quality of our wellness, relationships, career and success. Affirmations help us create positive thoughts that in turn create new pathways in the brain – neural pathways. Like a new highway that more effectively takes you where you need to go; positively worded statements literally rewire your brain.
Andrew Carnegie shared these wise words about thoughts: “Any idea that is held in the mind, that is emphasized, that is either fear or revered, will begin to clothe itself in the most convenient and appropriate form.”
How and When to Use Affirmations
Affirmations work best when phrased in the PRESENT tense as though they are true for you right now. If you use them in a future tense you will always be on your way, and may never get there.
For example:
“I am going be healthy” changes to “My body produces everything it needs to be healthy now.” The word goingimplies a future state or condition. Now allows the condition to exist in the body in present time.
“I really want a new job” shifts to “I naturally attract opportunities for my ideal job now.” Strong wording in present tense is far more effective.
Begin your affirmation with the phrase : “I am so grateful now that…”
Here’s the catch…
Affirmations will not work when we use language or words that do not resonate with how we speak. If the affirmation doesn’t fire up your passion or isn’t believable you won’t commit to this practice, therefore – it will not work. Here is why: the cells of your body are conscious and hear everything you say, including your inner dialogue. You might say the affirmation to yourself but in the background you are also saying: “this is BS.” When the BS meter goes off, you have just negated the affirmation.
Come up with one area you wish to change in your life first, find some words that inspire you, and commit to this amazing practice! Watch what happens in your life – it doesn’t take long. Then move to the next area and the next…take this active role in your personal growth.
I wish you an abundant spring and summer filled with much love, passion and adventure. As always I am here to support you in this life journey – and welcome your feedback.
